Humans are pathetic because their blind and self-destructive. It's dirty bird that soils it own nest.

And it depends upon what you mean by efficiency. It takes a lot more land to sustain meat animals (land to grow their food and land for them to roam) than it does the vegetation they feed upon. If you get rid of the meat animals, you have all that extra land which grows a lot more food for people than the meat animals provided (depending upon the crop you seed of course). As for herbivores eating all the time, it depends upon the animal and the diet. High metabolisms means you must eat more often, while low metabolisms mean you eat more, but less often. It is entirely possible to get protein from vegetables. Cows eat so often because they have four stomachs, so they're always digesting.

And while meat does provide some vitamins which are not easily obtained from vegetation, whoever, some things, particularly minerals and most B vitamins, are more easily obtained from vegetation. However, with our pi$$-poor farming methods, the only minerals we replace everytime we harvest is calcium, phosphorous, and nitrogen. You almost have to eat ocean fare (fish/seaweeds) just to replenish your minerals.

All in all, vegetarianism done correctly is more efficient than the Atkins diet for alien reptilians. ;)

Just for the record, I'm vegetarian, but not vegan. And I'm not trying to convert you, just stating my case.
